About FIJI

Phi Gamma Delta was founded on May 1, 1848, at Jefferson College in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania. The founders of the fraternity, known as the Immortal Six, were John Templeton McCarty, Samuel Beatty Wilson, James Elliott, Ellis Bailey Gregg, Daniel Webster Crofts, and Naaman Fletcher. Within a few weeks of the Fraternity’s founding, it had already expanded to Washington College. Phi Gamma Delta grew quickly to nine chapters by 1856. Currently there are more than 124 active chapters and 20 colonies.

Brotherhood

Friendship is the basis of our brotherhood and with it we accompish far more than we can as individuals. Friendship is the sweetest influence.

Knowledge

We gain it through education and the harmonious development of the powers of the individual. Our chapter has one of the highest cumulative GPA's on campus.

Service

We have the ability, the opportunity, and the duty to serve our fellow human beings. FIJI hosts and participates in a vast array of philanthropies every semester.

Graduate Brothers

Phi Gamma Delta was founded on the belief that our brotherhood is not for college days alone. Upon graduation, a brother earns the title of “Graduate Brother” rather than “alumni”. This signifies that he is forever a brother in our fraternity

Chapter History

The Chi Iota Chapter was originally chartered at the University of Illinois on August 6, 1897, as Phi Gamma Delta’s 73rd Chapter. After a successful 100-year tenure, a number of poor choices and declining membership forced the Chapter to close in 1998. The Fraternity welcomed back the Chi Iota chapter to campus on April 28, 2007. Our white star has been shining brightly at Illinois ever since.

Philanthropy

Service is one of the values we pledge to uphold. In the fall, we host the FIJI Bowl For The Troops which benefits the USO. In the spring, we hold Islander Games, Pig Roast Dinner, and the Phi Gamma Slamma volleyball tournament. Proceeds from these 3 philanthropies go to the Keep on Keeping On Foundation

Philanthropy

In the fall we host the Fiji Bowl, in which we partner with the USO to benefit the troops and veterans in our community. Fiji Bowl is a week long philanthropy event consisting of several different events. Aspects of the week include a pumpkin carving contest, spaghetti dinner and lastly, a powderpuff football game. This year we raised $5,335 for the USO. Thank you to all the teams that participated this year!

In the spring we host the Islander Games, Pig Roast Dinner and Phi Slamma Delta which all benefit the Keep On Keeping On Foundation. The biggest one out of these is Phi Slamma Delta, where we host a sand volleyball tournament in which different sororities compete against one another. This is followed by a BBQ cookout where each member of our fraternity sells tickets to this dinner and all proceeds go to the Keep On Keeping On Foundation. Last year we raised over $7,500 and we plan on surpassing that number this year. Once again, thanks to all the teams that participated last year and plan on participating this year!
